So true about giving your mind time and space to wander. Your wanderings can take you to facinating places where you can encounter endless new paths, new concepts, new possibilities. Who needs TV when you have that vast territory to explore ... right inside your head!

One key distinction: what if you have a habit of being innovative? You see, this is the key skill that will *really* make you innovative.

It is not breaking habits per se that is important; it is developing a habit of being innovative that is key. What could be better than directly learning habits associated with innovation!

This page about the <a href="http://www.synergeticmanagement.com/creative-process/" rel="nofollow"> creative process </a> explains this in more detail.

I couldn't agree more. There were some significant steps that were overlooked as the organization got impatient and couldn't wait for certain antecedent technologies to catch up.

Sadly, its lack of front door sales success meant that many of the innovative and useful technologies, particularly in the user interface area, pioneered by the Apple Newton haven't been adopted by modern Smartphones and in many respects they have yet to catch up with the Newton for usability.

See http://myapplenewton.blogspot.com/2009/04/apple-newton-why-it-was-discontinued.html and http://myapplenewton.blogspot.com/2011/04/marketing-consultancy-gets-facts-wrong.html

I guess that process could apply to a lot of things in life that we want to move toward. We just have to keep plugging away and studying it out until we finally figure out a way to succeed. :)

If you dream vividly it is not stage N-REM 1-3.
It is rare to recall dreams from those stages, and if they are recalled they are often "blurred".

Vivid dreaming occurs in REM sleep.

If you often sleep vividly just after falling a sleep you might be suffering from a sleep disorder, like Narcolepsy, or severe sleep apnea that suppress REM.

Fragmented sleep during nights is also a symptom of both Narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

"While this is happening, I sleep for a period, then in a state of semi-wakefulness I process some of the issues of the previous day and then fall back to sleep. This may happen several times over a period of an hour or two until things seem to be resolved"
This is not "normal". It sounds like you are often in and out of REM in a abnormal short amount of time, and "semi-wakefulness" several times in such a short amount of time is abnormal and sounds like Narcolepcy
The whole section sounds very much like something a narcoleptic person could write.

Check out the other sympotoms like EDS(most important), cataplexy(not a must), Sleep paralysis etc on narcolepsy section on wikipedia for example.
and do a MSLT it fits.

Btw Thomas edison is thought to have had Narcolepsy, A LOT of the symptoms fit him.
